HAZ Mu-Tron III+

So I'm thinking of buying one. I've read through various threads about this; reseached it on other sites and I've decided I'm going to try one out for a while & see how it goes.

My question is regarding powering the unit. I saw a power supply for $20 on the internet but as I'm in the UK I'd need a converter plug and try to avoid this at all costs. I use a One-Spot and wondered if I could use 2 battery clips. I presume you can but would this affect the signal strength for the other pedals? The other pedals I use via the One-Spot are a Boss CS-2, a Sansamp BDDI, MXR-100, Pro-Co Rat, Digitech BSW and soon a Dunlop 105Q.

Hopefully some of you can help, would be greatly appriciated.

Well it's usually explained as not being as good as the original Mu-tron, but I've never owned one and don't know how "not as good" it is.

Thanks, I'm aware of the whole 'not as good' debate, I'd just like to see what its like.

All I'd like to know was in my original post regarding powering the unit with a One-Spot, any help please?

It one input for 18v of DC power. If you have a way of changing the one spot's output to 18v (you mentioned battery clips, I'm not sure what those are) it will work. Just make sure you add up how many mA's in total the other pedals are using, how much the one-spot has, and figure out if you have enough for the Mutron+. Otherwise you'll have to use 2 9v batteries.

It's a really nice sounding pedal. It gets an unfair amount of criticism just because of the way it was marketed. It is not the Mutron III at all. But it is a great filter that can dial in some real cool, usable sounds. It retains your low end really well, which I think is the most important quality in a filter. It makes some real crazy noises if you just rub your finger along the strings too, fun to play around with if nothing else.

You might want to look into running it in a loop. I get some noticeable gain from having it in my signal chain even when it's deactivated. It's definitely not true bypass.

Thanks very much for the advice, I didn't really explain myself clearly enough; I meant that I was wondering if I could use two of the 9v adapters on the One-Spot [with the additional battery clip converters] and attach these to the battery clips on the mu-tron, thus skipping the 18v input on the pedal.

But yeah I guess it depends what the total of mA's my other pedals reach. I know with certain pedals, such as Moog's & Line 6 modelers the one-spot company advise that you only have one in its chain.

Thanks again though.

That's not possible I'm afraid. But you can get either a Diago 18v doubler or Godlyke power pump which is a small lead containing a voltage doubler circuit and has a jack socket at one end and a plug at the other. Alternativley buy a power supply that has both 9v and 18v outputs like the Voodoo Labs one.

You can not do this. All it will do is shortcut the One-Spot. A voltage doubler will do the trick, or just buy a proper 18 V PS.

Ahh ok, well thanks for the heads up. Just occurred to me that i have an 18v psu for my blowtorch, easiest thing to do would be to buy another...

This whole thread is now utterly pointless. Call it a blonde moment.

Just use a daisy chain on your 18 V PS then.
