HBE Hematoma + LM308 opamp?

Sign in to disble this ad
So, I've got this old Rat 2 with an LM308 in it. I got a 6-way Rat clone, so I never use the Rat 2. I also am a big fan of my HBE Hematoma. Any ideas how the LM308 would sound in the Hematoma?

Is the IC Chip socketed in the Hematoma?

I'm bumping this out of curiosity. Did the OP ever try it out, or has anyone else ever tried the LM308 in any other tubescreamer circuit?

Yeah, it's pretty neat. When I got it it came with a separate alternate "burr brown" opamp. I prefer the stock one though.

No, sadly. It's soldered in and I'm too afraid to desolder it out just yet. I was just curious. I should get on it though, just for fun sake.

I think that the hematoma has its origins in the tube screamer? And somehow I thought it had a dual op amp in it, but I could've just made that up to be disagreeable... anyway, if I'm right about that, I believe the LM308 is a single op amp and that it'd take more than a simple swap to get a hematoma with a 308.

The LM308 is externally compensated, so it's not 100% straightforward to swap it into an existing circuit designed for a different op amp.

That's the kind of answer I was looking for. Thanks
