Hey John,
cool that you give us some insight in your recording! I'm really excited about new tracks and I guess it'll be a fun time with some hard grooves...
I saw you play a gig with Nerve in Dortmund, Germany. I try to make it there on my way back from Hamburg where I got a gig...

Something different: You heard about the new Malekko Vibrato? I tried it and it sounds awesome for getting those seasick reece basslines. It's a true pitch vibrato and it's really tiny. Think you might like it.

had a good day..

got some good sounds, played a bit to find some lines and sections, and then started creating a form which we then re-played... got most of one song finished, save for a few little overdubs and maybe some edits.

a bunch of random photos of gear and people.

Love it John, but looks like it's time to get a PT-Pro

Have you jumped on the Markbass Supersynth yet John? I would've thought those 3 oscillators would be great for Reece sounds.

Merlinaz: hit me up if you are going to make it to the Dortmund gig... I'll put you on the guest list.

Tayste: I know... I'm holding out as long as possible... I can still fly with no overweight easily. PTPro would make touring a bunch more expensive... hrmph.

Danny: I'm not really into 'synth' pedals... I like making the sounds myself and the unique personalities the sounds have, as opposed to the same oscillator sounds that everyone who buys the box can have... also, I hate the way Markbass stuff looks. But, I'm sure that you can totally nail sounds like that with it.

John,

What's the mike on the Aggie rig? And is that an AG500sc into a DB212?

Thanks for posting this.

yup, ag500sc into a DB212... the white hot color is what really makes the sound killing.

the mic is an AudioTechnica 4047... sort of their copy of a Neumann FET47.

today was a good one... tough, but good. spent a looooong time working on a 168bpm sort of jungle/dubstep/idm sort of thing... just took forever getting my **** in the pocket and really phrasing it right... but in the end it turned out awesome...

Great thread. Excited to see more updates.

John, you guys have any idea when a rough release time might be? I know it is probably quite a ways off, but just curious.

Let me know about a U.S. tour and if you guys are interested in KC/Lawrence at all. Good stop right in the middle.

Ciao,

Proton

P.S. Is Jojo using two of those Picante Hand Crashes now? I love those damn cymbals.

hey proton,

release will actually be fairly quick... maybe a month or two... we're going for super fast turnaround on this ep. just make it and put it out. our first record took like 5 years, so we decided to never let that happen again....

i don't think right now he has a picante on the kit... he has an el sabor hand splash above the ride, and a prototype on the other side which is similar to the picante...

live he uses the picante, and he has it here, so it will probably be on a bunch of stuff.

i don't use a limiter in my rig or any compression, just whatever outboard compression feels necessary come mix time... live we generally use 2 DI's and sometimes mic the cabinet.

John

John:

Thanks for taking the time to post your experiences, very interesting and insightful.

Noticed you are using an M9. Curious about how you are using it with your other effects. What models are you finding useful, which models not so much?

Thanks again!

Holy crap, that MP201 is huge! That's the first time I've seen one in context.

I don't know about the order but I see:
Boss OC-2
WMD Fat Man
Zvex Woolly Mammoth
Copilot FX Orbit
Subdecay Noisebox
Bit Crusher?? not sure
Moog MF101
Moog MP201
Line 6 M9
Aguilar Tone hammer

You can even tell by the lights on the M9 he's got some filter, modulation and delay going on.

What I'd like to know is; what's the pedal between the Morley and the bassballs sitting on the road case?

hey dudes. i'm exhausted. 12 hours on one track today... plus like 5 hours on it last night.

anyway, about the m9...

it is awesome. i can get back to all my old DL4 tricks that i used to do before I broke 2 of them and vowed to never buy one again...

there are a few decent things from the filter modeler... most of them sound kinda cheap, but a few are awesome. been playing some melody type stuff on bass with a few of those sounds... the pitch shifting and the ring mod are pretty great. you can get some good 'cheap' synth sounds that sound kinda like software synths which are good for dubstep and minimal stuff... i can't remember which synth models, but there are a few that sound just crappy enough to be cool.

modulation is nice. pitch vibrato is good and some subtle phasing is always nice...

i'm not into the drive stuff at all.

that's about it so far... just getting into it.

gonna finish this wine and crash.

john
