Headphone out as a DI?

Sign in to disble this ad
Whats up, I was looking at a compressor pedal that has a 1/4 headphone output. I was wondering if i could use that to go directly into a line level channel on my mixer and into my computers audio interface to record. Would the quality be compromised because its not a DI box?

Not sure it would work, since headphones are normally super high impedance, but it shouldn't hurt to try.

Sometimes the output level of a device can be high enough to overcome a non-ideal impedance relationship. The Jacques Fat Burner you're talking about is one of those cases--it has plenty of gain. What it won't do is balance the signal, so the line will still be vulnerable to picking up noise and hum if you run a long cable. But if your cable is reasonably short -say 15' or less- then it shouldn't be a problem. And the sound quality from it is fine. Maybe not "the best", but not bad at all.

Same way I knew! There aren't too many other compressor pedals with headphone outputs.
