It doesn't list what was used when studio-wise specifically, but most of the time JPJ used the same or similar rigs both in the studio and on the road.
He definitely used a pick on Heartbreaker...if that helps any...

Jones used a pick a lot onstage w/Zeppelin, but I think some of that was needing to punch thru Bonham's drumming.

| | | | From my understanding old leslie speaker systems were powered by tube power-amps so if they were turned up all the way then they would probably get some rich power-tube overdrive. This is my theory for this track. |

I sold it because it had a slight low end loss in some settings, but I did get in contact with the manufacturer who said they could mod it for bass for me. Since the drive circuit was no good for bass, I got the grit from a BB Preamp.
There's a new kid on the block though, the Tech21 Roto Choir. Not seen any reviews, but this could be a good one.
There are cheaper options, such as the Line6 Rotosim, Danelectro Rocky Road, or even a chorus/phaser pedal can do a reasonable approximation. |
