Help on balance sound on the bass!

Sign in to disble this ad
Recently i made a thead about my p bass tone with flats saying the sound is no low or bass enough for me. So I went and invest abit of money for some effect and pedal.

I got a Boss 7 band EQ and a Boss Limiter Enhancer. I mess around with the pedal and i got the tone i wanted. It sound alot more better now but i come across to one problem.

The E and A string sound perfect to me because the tone is fat and low which i always like on those strings on the P. But the D and G strings sound too bass and muddy when playing some octave and high notes. I try changing the stuff around but i either get too bassy or too trebley. Was wondering how you guys do the settings to balance the 2 around so i can get that big low fat sound on the E and A string and at the same time i get the clear high sound on the D and G string

What tone are you setting the p-bass to? All bass? Mid, treble? That can play a factor as well.

Mids really should help with that... it is a balancing act, but it's definitely achievable. I'm still confused how you can't get the sound you want just using your bass and amp given what you described in the last thread.

Yeah, there's something wrong with this picture. People don't normally have to use any sort of effects to get a decent sound from all strings of their bass. I would say adjust the pickup height first, and try a different package (or type) of strings second.

+1 to Bongo's post - sounds like either a setup issue or that you simply don't like the strings.

The likely solution is probably a pickup height adjustment or string height adjustment. Don't adjust the string height yet, though - you'll have to make some truss rod adjustments and re-intonate your bass if you do that! Consider that a last-resort adjustment... mess with the pickup height first. Raise one side, lower another, etc.
