it helps if you list what ibanez bass you have???

I have the K5 which can get alot of different tones out of it,... my setup atm for just onboard controls is pickups either in the middle or neck orientated (bridge pickup gets that jazz nasally sound on my bass)

I then put the mids and bass to about 3/4 and add a tiny bit of treble to compensate,... ends up with a nice dark rock/metal sound for me but still has no loss of volume over all strings,... if you want to go EQ for amps thats a different story and depends on your amp...

other 'dark' things I can think of are brutal deep fuzz and distortions or a very deeply eq'd overdrive?

thats all my suggestions...

Also helps to know if you're playing fingerstyle or with a pick.

"Dark" usually means turning down the treble. Try that. Also, 100% guaranteed a big part of any tone dissatisfaction you have is the Crate BX15. I'm sorry, but you'll never get any of the bass tones of your favorite bands using that amp.

Bass tones require a lot of power, and also a lot of speaker surface area. In order to get decent tone, in the price range I'm assuming for you, I wouldn't look at anything less than 100W and less than 2x10 speakers, or a 1x15. If you go over to the Amps forum and search on "combo" and "cheap" or "inexpensive" you may get some useful suggestions.

Also be aware that if your GSR200 has the 4th "bass boost" knob, using too much of it will tend to make your tone undefined and mushy.
