Help a beginner with realtime software FX?

Sign in to disble this ad
So Im looking to get into using some realtime software effects, and I was wondering if anyone can explain simply the general workings.

I have 2 input boxes, firstly my GT10B can plug into a comp via USB, also I have a MOTU firewire input box, so I have all the equipment needed.

But on the software side Im rather clueless.

Are there standardised programs and patches?

Are there online communities where people share user-made creations?

Any good programs to start with?

Anybody else going all software?

good thread discussing opinions on software effects, with links and program ideas. my favorite so far is NI guitar rig 4 but it appears there are a lot of free plugins that really kick it. good luck with it...i'm too chicken to try it.

Thanks, Ive already started messing with plogue bidule. It seems quite easy to use.

This may be a stab in the dark, but Im looking for an effect that will augment an input signal. The effect would add sympathetic metallic vibrations like a sitar.

If you want to do this BIG and COMPLICATED you might want to check out Ableton Live. You need to route the bass signal to your pc into the software then out of the pc to your amp or the PA/mixing desk. To control the software you need some sort of midi controller.
