help: behringer composer-pro or ebs multicomp?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi!
I'm Fabio and I've read a lot of articles about compressors but I can't find a specific answer to my question...

Now I'm using a behringer composer pro and I like very much the AUTO function (for attack / release time) and the TUBE simulator (it's good to cuts through the mix, without it I'm "lost") and I use a hard compression (1:8)
BUT, I don't like it during recording (unnatural, and al lot of hiss)

I've tried an ebs multicomp in a shop but obviously I couldn't set internal trimmers... so my answer is:

can I have an "hard" compressed sound, with high quality and some warm to bring my bass out of the mix with a multicomp?
or I should use my composer?

Hi Fabio,
I like the EBS a lot, but honestly it does not have as much control over the parameters as your rack comp, so you may have trouble getting exactly the sound you want. Yes it can sound "hard" if you turn the Comp knob up all the way, but it raises the noise floor and can make your bass sound "over-processed". Like how you describe the Behringer during recording.

I would recommend a Symetrix 501 or a dbx 166A instead. Or check out the reviews page linked in my sig line for other suggestions.

thanks for answering... i've read your articles!

there's only one question:
can I have with the EBS an almost "hard" compression
('cause I switch from tapping to slap, and my hands are very fragile :P)
with some kind of warm sound to help me to go out-of-the-mix ???
