Help -- Boss PS-3 footswitch problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, my beloved PS-3 has been acting up.

Symptoms: When I plug it in, the effect is on (as per all boss pedals), but I will usually have trouble getting it to go into bypass. More often than not, instead of actually going to bypass it'll turn off completely, killing my signal. At this point I have to hit it a couple more times, then it turns back on (engaged), with no signal, eventually letting the effected signal through.

About 1 out of 3 times it'll go to bypass correctly the first time, but then have trouble becoming engaged and I have to start this all over again.

Other details: Right now I am away from most of my stuff and as such only have instrument, amp, RC-20xl and PS-3. I have no power supplies, but I did just install a fresh battery. I bought it used pretty recently and it occasionally has a fit of the gremlins, but this is the worst its been, and I'm afraid it's been a progression.

So, how do I fix this Boss switch?

i'm not sure what you should do to fix that. First thing to do is not use it till its fixed. Its obviously a problem with the bypass button. The more you stomp it, the better chance it is gonna damage it.

Heh, semi-fixed now -- the wires to the battery clip got snagged somewhere around the actual switch which caused power to get disrupted. I finagled the wires, put the battery facing the other way and it's a lot better so long as I put my foot down exactly where the switch is.

But it still isn't like new. Anyone have any experience with worn out boss switches?
