Help with a busted RC-2!

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought an RC-2 from a fellow TBer which arrived today in a sorry state. It wasn't shipped with enough padding and got whacked or crushed in transit across the globe, bending the stacked guide/phrase knob. The other two knobs are slightly and very slightly bent but hopefully OK.
The unit worked but the stacked knobs wouldn't turn independent of each other.

The seller was most apologetic and offered to reimburse any or all my money.

I couldn't bend the knob straight again - the only result was the outer knob (phrase volume) lost it's grip on the shaft and stopped working, so pedal was now a drum machine.

I took the knobs off and tried to straighten the shaft with pliers but only managed to snap it off.

I took the unit apart and discovered that the pot that needs to be fixed is on it's own PCB. Perhaps this is a flicker of hope?

Does anyone know if this can be fixed and where I'd get the parts?

Also the battery cover screw is bent and maybe crushed because it won't unscrew far enough to pop the cover.

I would try to find a regular stacked pot (it's a B type with 50KOhms, according to the picture). It doesn't have to be a print version. Then desolder the broken one from it's PCB, and solder the new one with short leads to the PCB.

There are two unknown SMD capacitors on the PCB, so you can't get rid of it altogether.

I couldn't get my hands on one yesterday but it turns out the Roland agent is someone I've been to recently for amp repair. He should be able to help.

Pedal fixed, problem sorted. The agent had a buggered pedal on hand that he whipped the pot/board out of.
