Sign in to disble this ad
I am planning to get a Big Muff for playing Muse's songs.
I know that Chris is using the Russian Big Muff Pi.
But which one would tbers suggest?
Russian Big Muff Pi, Big Muff Pi, Little Big Muff and the latest Bass Big Muff?

Hows their sounds?

Thanks a lot

The best big muff for playing muse songs is the one that the guy from muse uses.

The best big muff in general is really personal preference. You seem to like the sound Chris gets, so why not choose the green one?

EDIT: I apologize, as I come to correct myself before anyone else does. He USED the Green Russian, but at some point switched to the Black Russian model. My mistake.

Up untill recently, I owned both the black and original green sovtek muffs. I now only have the green one as the black one never got any use.

IMO the green big muff totally dominates the black one in every way possible:
Its extremely solid, more so than the black.
The in and out jacks are the 'correct' way around rather than backwards as on my Black model.
The tone and overall volume/gain of the pedal is in another league to the black model.
The green version holds the low end very well where the black one goes a bit thin if you really crank it.
The green one looks better!

One of these days I will do an A/B with my green sovtek VS the new bass big muff.

werd...

If you plan on playing other song like TIRO and Hysteria... I suggest a Woolly Mammoth and an Akai Deep Impact...

Some say a Digitech Bass Synth Wah can get very close, but I can NAIL his tone with the Deep Impact and Woolly Mammoth. I also have a little big muff, LS-2 line switcher and OC-2 for octave and line switching. A Boss DD-3 for delay, BF-2 for flange, and an intelliphase for my phaser...

I can almost dupe any sound he has had that I have tried for...

I can also make tons of others that fit well in my original project.

Hey....

That board sounds very very interesting. Can you flash it, and maybe tell me about the chain..

Oh... do you have any soundclips?

I tried the Woolly Mamoth the other day and I have to agree it does a great TIRO sound but my impression was that was its one major sound and wouldn't be too good on other Muse songs.

The Mammoth is very much a one-trick pony.

If you like the trick, then thumbs up.

Thats cool, although for the recrd, TIRO is just a synth over an un-effected bass line (at least I think it is un-effected. That's definetly a synth though. Chris has said so himself, and there are vids of him playing TIRO live with a synth.)

Well, the Deep Impact is a bass synth... And it's what Chris uses. And it's what Kaputsport was just talking about.
