Help with compression/sustainer?

Sign in to disble this ad
I own an SWR 8004, I used to own the 4004 which was stolen a year ago, but I like the extra headroom of the 8004. It had a compressor knob that I loved to use as it lessened the harshness on the speakers and also smoothed out the sound. It was just a single knob with perfect easy use. Question is does anyone make a cheap pedal that can do the same with stupid simple control? Most compression pedals I see are just too full of things I dont need or want with too many knobs as well.

I'm not aware of any one knob compressors that aren't part of a pre or an amp or something. The cheapest thing I can think of that has a single knob comp is the EHX Bass Metaphors. I think I tried it and wasn't impressed. More knobs should make a compressor easier to dial in. Have you checked Bongomania's reviews? http://www.ovnilab.com/index.shtml

If you want dead-simple controls, and cheap, try the BBE Opto-Stomp or the DOD Milk Box.

The bass metaphors doesn't have a knob for compression, just a switch. Although if you get ambitious there are two internal pots you can adjust (one for compression amount, one for gain), which makes a huge difference as the setting out the box is mega-squash.
