Help! Darkglass b3k... issues :(

Hello!

Ok got this through the post today, could not wait to use it and well... theres something wrong!

Literally the worsr buzzing / humming noise i have ever heard...

Playing it through a GK mb500 and a barefaced super 12, ive checked all the wires all fine, using the power supply from my zoob b2. My bass is active with emg HB's

As soon as i turn the attack boost, on the buzzing sound is multiplied by about 10 in volume.... i literally have to turn the gain right down on my head to get rid of it but then obv i have no volume. I just cannot work it out.

Its as if its lacking power, it cannot handle my E string.

Ive seen the videos for this pedal, and even with the horrible buzz I cannot not get it to sound anything like it...

Maybe i have a faulty one but... has anyone else has this problem...

Proper gutted as ive never been so excited to try a pedal! :(

Did you try a different power supply? Some are noisier than others. I use a onespot with the daisychain and don't notice any additional noise at all.

Good Luck!

I dont think it would be the power supply though... works fine with my zoom, no noise at all...

Did you contact Darkglass/Doug/Spencer?
Always contact the builder or company before heading to the forums.

Just because a power supply works with one pedal, that doesn't mean it will work with all pedals. The B3k has been identified to be sensitive to what kinds of supplies it works with.

Also, contact Doug.

This is the second time in as many weeks that this has popped up. I hope it's just power supplies. I haven't had any issues with my B7K using a 1 spot or my Zoom B3's power supply, which could point to something being wrong with the pedal, rather than the power supply.

Personally, I'd trade sensitivity for the ability to have more freedom in power supplies, if that is indeed the problem.

just curious, is urs fnnish or us made?

The specs I could dig up on the power supply are that it's 9v DC and 300 mA output but no mention for if it was center negative or positive. So that might be the problem there.

1Spots are center negative, therefore it requires a center negative supply

I know...I was referring to the zoom power supply.

I had the Finnish model and ultimately returned it. Using a Voodo LabPedal Power 2+ helped minimize the noise considerably.

Melodie 11-30-2012 02:16 PM

Hello! Yep i have contacted the supplier, mine is USA made

Melodie 11-30-2012 02:22 PM

lol it is the power supply... i just popped and boroowed one from a friend... virtually silent!!! yay :)

alec 11-30-2012 02:29 PM

Zoom B2 power supply is centre negative.
I'd try another power supply to confirm, but it sounds like the problem is with the pedal.

*edit - good to hear!

Melodie 11-30-2012 02:40 PM

:) this pedal is insane, already found my sound!

Great to hear that everything turned out fine.
I always recommend Visual Sound's 1spot or other power supplies designed for pedal usage! (Vodoo Labs, T-Rex, etc)

Regards
Doug.
