help for DIY tube driver

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,
don't usually post on this forum so i tried a few searches but couldn't really find what i was looking for.

Basically I'm wanting to have a really simple pedal that I can push on to send my bass back to some classic 60's tube tones. I've had a bit of a look around on the market but can't find the tone I'm after. Ideally what I'm after is a pedal that has a pot for indicating how much signal i'm sending into a tube and therefore how hard i'm riding it, possibly a high end filter (so i can get a little of a more muffled 60's tone) and then an output volume so i can balance my level once i've got the correct drive through the tube.
It sounds to me like a pretty simple pedal and even through i'm definately a noob at electronics i'm wondering if anyone could point me in the directions of some schematics for a pedal like this. Like i'm saying... i don't want a crazy fuzz pedal, just a smooth well rounded warm 60's tube tone. I'd love to just go out and buy a vintage fender bassman head, but i don't want to have to lug a second rig to every gig.

Thanks in advance, t

You can build on your own or get pre-built units.

I think you want Aron Nelson's Shaka tube. PCBs and parts layouts here.

Circuits involving tubes run on high voltages but some run "starved plate" ie: 12V. For clean tones this is not so good but is fine for distortion.
