I know it's just his opinion, but IMHO, he's dead-on for the compressors he recommends for clean, "transparent" compression. It's a good place to start. From there, you can look for more threads on the compressors that catch your interest.
As for delay... if you're not sure what you want, you should read a few threads on delay pedals in this forum first. I'd especially recommend reading about the differences between analog and digital delay pedals.
Otherwise, we'd just be throwing a list of random delay pedals at you.
If you're interested, I just did a review on the EHX Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai, a digital delay pedal that's packed with features and can faithfully emulate analog delay sounds. It's also expensive, rather large, and may do more than what you need. But check out my review anyway - it'll help you figure out if you want something like that, or if it's just too much.

You won't get much more help than you've already gotten unless you do some work on your own. |

but i cant reason spending ~$500 on a Replex delay pedal(although it sounds freaking great) now if you know of a delay pedal that has that great sound but not that price tag im all ears.
and as far as compressors go im ashamed to admit i read your entire review but i cant find anything that suits my taste when i get to the local store.

If you read my reviews, for example, I listed a large number of units that I liked, some of which are available in stores. Even outside of the ones I single out as "the best", there are many, many units that I review pretty positively overall. Plus here in the forum there have been a great many comments, reviews, and suggestions in other threads from other TB'ers. So how are you able to "read" all that and still have no idea what's good, or at least worth trying? What did you try at the local store, that didn't suit your taste? And how did you try it?
Same goes for delays. I don't have a big delay-reviews page, but I sure as hell know there are dozens upon dozens of threads recommending really good-sounding delays for a lot less than $500. In fact it seems like there's a thread recommending a really good delay nearly every day. So what are all those threads to you? Nothing? |

That's a tube-driven delay pedal meant to emulate the sounds of old tape delays like the Echoplex. With that note alone, it's easy to give recommendations now! You're clearly looking for something on the vintage end of delay.
(If you did your research, you would have looked up terms like "tape delay", "Echoplex", "vintage delay", "warm delay", etc.... all terms that describe the Replex )
Anyhow...
The two modern pedals I would suggest looking into would be the Boss Space Echo reissue (RE-20) and the Line 6 DL4 (which has tape delay emulation and plenty of other modes). Both pedals are $250.00 each - half of what you thought of spending for the Replex.

Local stores are hit and miss at best. Most shops carry mostly Boss and Digitech with maybe a smattering of Electro Harmonix, MXR, and Tech 21. You can drive all over the place or you can play return shipping roulette. Sometimes I think this vintage tone business is a bit silly. I find that rolling off my tone knob goes a long way in that department. Then again, what do I know, I make do with a cheap digital multi-effect. |
