Good plan, except that I don't think Gearbox is compatible with the Live XT...you want to use Line 6 Monkey software to manage all the various firmware updates etc...
Then you want Line 6 Edit to edit and save patch settings. Just connect your Live XT to the PC with this application using a mini USB cable (I robbed mine from my HP printer) and you will have a very intuitive visual layout of all the various amp models, cab choices, room, stomp boxes, modulation etc...
You can also download and upload patches that other users have tweaked.
