Help Me Arrange My Pedalboard Please

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking into putting together my first pedalboard, but I've been told to be conscious of the order in which I place my pedals. Could someone help me with the order I put them in? Here's what I got:

- Sansamp Bass Driver DI
- EHX #1 Echo Digital Delay (don't really use it, so I may not put it on the board)
- Boss ODB-3
- MXR Phase 90
- T-Rex Sweeper Chorus
- Marshall Guv'nor Fuzz
- Boss Tuner

Any input would be awesome, thanks very much!

I would put Sansamp and other distortions 1st, followed by tuner,Phase, delay and chorus...you could also consider a line selector pedal like the Boss LS1 to keep pedals from creating extra noise in your signal path when not in use

Give this a shot:

BASS > Tuner > Phase > ODB > Fuzz > Sansamp Bass Driver DI > Chorus > EHX #1 Echo Digital Delay > AMP

There's a few general common sense rules you can follow...

1) stuff that needs a good signal for tracking purposes (envelope filters, octavers, tuners) work better up front.
2) Modulation stuff (chorus, reverb, delay, etc) work better at the end so the other effects can go into the modulation.
3) Anything with a DI works best at the end of the chain, again so you can get other effects in front of it to send out to the board. If you're using the DI on your Sansamp, anything you have after it won't go to the house PA.
4) Effects order is all about personal preference, there aren't really any set rules. Try different things, experiment and see what works best for you.

If I were working with that list, here's the way I'd set it up (but again, this is just personal preference):

Tuner > ODB-3 > Guv'nor > T-rex > MXR > #1 > BDDI

5sg.
