Help me choose a wah: Dunlop 105Q vs. G-Lab BWW-1

Sign in to disble this ad
I love the sound of my Dunlop - so much mid range growl and funky sounds coming out from this toy, but I have a major problem with bypass - it takes a lot of my punch and clarity iny bypass mode.
It's not noticable on roundwound strings, but I prefer flats and I like to have a big thump which is impossible with Dunlop in signal chain.

I can have a G-lab BWW-1 Wowee-Wah for my Dunlop, but I don't know how does it sound. On youtube videos the G-Labs sound is very trebly and quite thin, but it has a lot of switches and filters so maybe it's just a matter of tweaking. And it has a greater bypass.

What do you think?

the bypass may be terrible on the 105Q but that WET NASTY FUNK sound is worth it. just get a bypass switch and you're set

I own the Bass Wowee, and I do not find it thin at all. I'll try to throw a clip up later to show how it sounds for me.

+ 1
and you get a decent low-end.

Okay, here goes. This is quick'n dirty, because that's all I have the energy for. The signal chain is my Peavy Zodiac (passive P/J) with both pickups at full and tone open --> effects --> firewire interface --> Garage Band. No juicing or goosing, pre or post; this is in the raw (like I said, quick'n dirty). The clip goes fingerstyle (clean), fingerstyle (wah in lo range), pickstyle (clean), pickstyle (wah in lo range), fingerstyle (dirty, through my AGRO), fingerstyle (dirty, through my AGRO, wah in hi range), fingerstyle (dirty, through my Messdrive), fingerstyle (dirty, through my Messdrive, wah in lo range).

Here is the clip, hope it helps.

Thanks for your clip Smurf-o-Deth! But your clip convinced me, that G-lab is totally not for me. Just like in MarloweDKs presentation - too much treble.

I'm looking for this sound:

So I have to try the true bypass mod..

The Dunlop 105Q really sounds terrific. I like to put a boost in front of it. My bass (Fender 62 American P reissue) has medium to low output so I think it helps the 105Q really kick into gears.

I have the same bass as yours! Sounds greath through wah with rounds, but I love LaBella flats and I loose a lot of "oomph" and punch wih 105Q on my signal chain

Keep the Dunlop you love but buy a Boss LS-2 to bypass it when not using it.
