Question Help Me decide..What Pedal?

Sign in to disble this ad
Well, it's that time of year and my b-day also on Jan 1. So, I have some special offers that are about to expire and I want to use at least one of them to treat myself to a new pedal.

I'm not looking for anything specific, just experimenting. I play (and people I play with) primarily rock and blues.

Equipment I'm using is a Fender MIM P, Squier VM Jazz, Squier VM Tele and a Marbass CMD 102P combo.

I have a PT mini which now holds a mini looper, VT Bass, Boss AW, Polish Love, MXR El Grande Fuzz and Boss CEB-3 pedals. I also have a TU-2.

I think Santa is bringing me a Nano Small Stone.

In the "closet" I have an Aphex Bass Exciter, Boss GEB7 and Boss Fender Bassman pedals.

So, here is what I'm considering:
  • Electronix Messdrive Hybred+
  • EBS UniChorus
  • BYOC 5 knob compressor (already assembled)
Others to consider?

Since I have a PT mini that I really like and I look at this as a project in pedal management, size of pedal is a consideration. Also, I don't like "Pod-like" digital stomp boxes.

What would you suggest??

Thanks for the help and consideration!

Ok, I'll bite. You should get what you need, or at least, what you want. That's totally up to you. If you were trying to decide between several of the same type effect, that's one thing. But, this is just up to you.

You not only listed three pedals but three types of pedals which says to me you don't know what you want. What is your current setup lacking? What sounds do you feel a need to get? Or are you just board?

I wouldn't say I'm bored, I'm just experimenting and learning. I'm trying to develop my pedal knowledge.

Your right, all three are different pedals. And your right again, I'm not looking for a specific sound.

Thanks for the response!

I voted other - either a better filter, a delay, or a comp but I think there are better options for bass than the BYOC 5 knob (I could be completely wrong).

OK then. First, a OD is a great place to start but, where to start, there are threads and threads on the subject, I have spent well over $500 on drives in the last two years and ended up with the one I wanted in the first place but didn't have the guts to get because there were no "bass" reviews on it what so ever. That Pedal is the HAO Rumble Mod and it is expensive and I now have two............... On the other hand I have kind'a become a HAO fanboy so.................

Chorus: I HATE most choruses. I've only come across a very few I like and I don't own one. But if I did it would but the Analog Man one; it is based one the original small clone, and I have always like recordings of this.

Comp: Comp is my always one pedal, I've gone through a few and ATM have settled on a Demeter Compulator, but I am not you so......... I think you should muck through ALL of Bongo's reviews.

WOW....you and the others that replied must be "strong with the force!"

I came across a Demeter Compulator -New- on E-Bay with "Make an Offer." Made an offer last night and it was accepted. Just scored a Compulator for $170.00 including shipping and tax using an E-Bay coupon I had!

Happy holidays to me! Thanks for the guidance.
