I've seen this video of Doug Wimish several times already and have tried to figure out what pedal combo he's using, but I haven't really worked it out. Can somebody tell me what's going on in the first 15 seconds and at around 55 seconds.

It's just a really heavy, clanky chorus. If you're looking for a cheap option, the Digitech Bass Multichorus will get you darn close.

Be aware you'll probably need to be slapping an active bass to get the sound.

Yeah the chorus is throughout the whole thing, but the Digitech Whammy is the really notable thing from 0.00 to 0.15. Just before 0.55 he's using a delay with an infinite repeat, then at 0.55 it's just the chorus, and around 1.00 he brings back the Whammy and kicks on the distortion and echo-delay.

From what I can make out on his board, the signal chain is:

Digitech Whammy (not seen, but you can tell he uses one)

Digitech XSW Synth Wah

BOSS BF-2 Flanger

DOD FX-25 Envelope Filter

DigiTech XBC Bass Multi Chorus OR XMC Multi Chorus (they look the same)

I'm up in the air about the next one, whether or not it is a BOSS FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz, a BOSS MT-2 Metal Zone, A BOSS DSD-2 or DSD-3 Digital Sampler/delay, BOSS ML-2 Metal Core, BOSS RV-2 Reverb, BOSS RV-3 Reverb, or BOSS RV-5 Reverb. But TBH, it looks most like the RV-2.

The BOSS delay could be a DD-2, DD-3, DD-5, DD-6, or DD-7, but is most likely a DD-2, DD-3, or DD-5.

Line 6 DL4 Delay

Ernie Ball Volume Pedal Jr. I'd assume its the 6181 25k ohm model as it is at the end of the effects chain.

My thinking is that the distortion you are hearing is either his amp turned up, his effects being run to a guitar amp, or a little of both.

UGH! He's got a cool board but I really think this video is obnoxious. A very good player doing stupid stuff IMO. It sounds like he's doing the classic "here's the weird sounds I can make" maneuver. But the groove with just the chorus is sharp.

As far as the distortion goes, I think it sounds a little more fuzzy than crunchy so I'm betting he's using the hyper fuzz or some other fuzz pedal.
