I am not big on flangers, but I am partial to chorus and phaser.
I have had a hard time finding one that sounds good in a mix, I have a line 6 m9 and everything on it is displeasing.
I have one spot left on my board, and I want a spacy watery bass sound, so what do you guys prefer and what type.
I understand there is a search function, but there has been so many releases since then, that it seems out dated.
Thanks in advance |

A flanger , to me, is kinda like a more metallic sounding phaser, but even swirly-er. Probably a good chorus pedal would be a better starter, though I can't live without both, and actually found a flanger I like better than any of the phasers I've owned. Go chorus, there's enough of them to make it hard to choose.

This is the place where it is advisable to suggest the EHX Small Clone (NOT the newer nano clone, which really sucks) or the Analogman chorus, which is based on the Small Clone. You could also try the EHX Polychorus |

It's a truly liquid-like chorus with a parallel flanger. Both sound excellent on bass (I wouldn't have been using it since its release if I didn't think so ). If you're not a fan of most flangers, this one might change your mind... its tone is rather unique.
Also, a delay pedal is great for atmosphere. Set the repeats to be significantly quieter than the dry signal to create spacey ambiance.

I can personally vouch that this is as watery of a chorus as I've ever heard:
Not even joking, as silly as it seems

I'm usually partial to chorus for a *watery* sound(of course your watery & mine could be two vastly different things)but this one is definitely a keeper. And- as is the case w/most DOD stuff- it's commonly available & cheap.

I don't hate the phasers on my M13, but if I really needed that sound, I would have a Small Stone set next to my M13 on my board in a heartbeat.
I also liked the Small Clone as a watery chorus, but the 'spacey' part of your description leads me toward the phaser.
Edit::: Here's a noise clip I made with the Small Stone as my only modulation. Not much for straight bass, but gives a feel for the type of modulation delivered by the SS. Decide for yourself. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7671824

Currently, I use a CEB-3, which suits me fine for what I play. I don't think it fits your needs ("spacy watery bass sound"), but it does a decent job and keeps low-end. Will give a shot to the CE-5 and Analogman one of these days. I also use a phase (Small Stone), once in a while. I took the BF-3 off the board for now.

I'm not a fan of Line 6, but you might try taking mild-ish settings for each and running them on the M9. The combo might work better than individual settings. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
