Help from the Pedalboard Gurus

Sign in to disble this ad
Well after 30 years of playing I'm finally putting a pedalboard together. I know this has probably been beat to death but I'm looking for tips on signal chain placement.

Here is what I'm working with:
Wireless (obviously first )
Sadowsky pre
Turbo tuner
VT bass
OC2 Octave
GEB-7 EQ -prob for boost only
CEB3 Chorus
Jamman looper

The quirkiest piece seems to be the octave pedal
Thanks

give this article a good read....and if your still uncertain come back and ask again

though there is no set special order for effects....this article helped me tremendously in the beginning...

my signal path is as follows

phaser
wah
OD
Frequency Boost
Fuzz

in one loop

octave
chorus

in the other loop

all of which go into a sansamp loop 1 and 2 be blended with the stomp of a switch...

good luck

I'd go...

Wireless
Tuner
Octave
EQ (or pre)
VTbass
EQ (or pre)
Chorus
Looper

But thats just a ballpark... Play aroud and see if there's anything that sounds good in a specific order and build around that. Definately octave in front in my opinion.

The pre and EQ could potentially go in either order... Just depends which you want to shape your tone before the dirt, and which after. Or if you want to boost the VT for more dirt vs boost after to make it louder.

I like tuner last so I can mute the whole chain if I desire, just need to make sure other things aren't on while tuning (and even then it works ok most of the time).

Stupid question - where would a clean-boost go in a chain that included an Aphex Bass Xciter? Aphex says to place its pedal last in the chain, and I've thought that the boost should be near the end also...given all that, should the boost be last-last or second-last?

If you're only using the GEB-7 for boosting then I'd recommend a dedicated boost pedal. Maybe one of the Catalinbread boosts?

Cheers, Joe.

I'll eventually use the eq for tone shaping, probably for a slap or picked tone.
I checked out the Super Chili Picoso, it seems to do boost well. Thanks! Just what I needed, more GAS when I'm low on gigs!
