Help!!! Please!!!

Today I went to guitar center and got a good deal on a Ibanez Smash Box. 29.99 out the door. But i got home, and plugged it in, and got a nasty surprise. When plugged in, sometimes the bypass, works fine, and sometimes, my bypassed tone is really quiet, and the effect leaks through. I tried changing my cables and stuff and its still off and on when it works and when it doesnt. I really dont want to give up this deal. Thanks a bunch!!

i actually fixed it!!!! I just took a q-tip, swabbed the input and output jacks, plugged and unplugged the cables a few times and viola!!! It works. Its a really heavy distortion. When the drive is around 8 o'clock its almost too much.
