Help Please: Markbass Compressore or Maxon CP9Pro+

Sign in to disble this ad
Alright, i am going to buy one or the other today. I could really use some straight up advise here. I HAVE read bongo's reviews on each an embarrassing amount of times (thanks dude). I would like to exclude a few things from the comparison so please don't bring em up: Price (i have the money), size (i have the space), power (i'll deal with the markbass' requirements). I intend to use this to even out my playing and do some limiting as i get a little overexcited sometimes and my dynamics go out the window.

I have a line on a good price on both and i'm really struggling with this decision. Any help or opinions from you guys would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If those three things don't bother you then Markbass all the way. If power and space are a factor, look elsewhere.

i'm actually leaving the house right now to go by the compressore. i feel like if i buy anything else i'll still want the markbass.

i guess the size can be good for me cause it'll take up enough room to keep me from doing ill advised things like adding a 2nd fuzz pedal or other gratuitous things.

Yeah I don't want to knock the Maxon at all, but I think I'd choose the MB too, if size and powering are not concerns.

i wont get to use this till tomorrow but i'm pretty excited. i've been messing with lower end compressors on and off for a while but i've always felt that my tone has suffered and took them off of my board . finally going all in on a good one. i have a nice little 3 day road trip this week starting thursday so by the beginning of next week when i get home i will have really worked it out good. can't wait.

If that doesn't work out for you Fitz, I would recommend the Mad Prof Forest Green. I really liked it and you and I seem to have similar tastes.

The MB is the only stompbox compressor I have seen that has all the perimeters that a rack comp has. The tube colours the sound in a good way, but personally I would prefere my compression to not colour the sound. It takes up a lot of space on a pedal board and runs on 18 volts. With that said I have no regrets buying one.
