helps on effects....

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everybody,

I know such thread had been create in the past but I didn't find the answer I'm searching for. I want to know which pedal will get me close to a tasty distorsion/fuzz sound . I heard that Prunes&custard Harmonic Generator/Intermodulator give great result , but I know some guys like higgie knows alot about effects. Do I need a synth pedal or a distortion one? I'm kinda lost.... Do i have to buy a distortion pedal and a synth one to combine their effect?

Thanks,
Ben.

"Tasty" is kind of vague.

Do you want over the top dirty, balls out wall of sound fuzz, just distortion to sound more g****r-like, like a synthy fuzz??? You've REALLY got to be more specific before everyone starts listing their favorite fuzz and this goes OT.

What kind of music are you playing? What bass do you have? What head/cab/combo are you using? Tell us more so we can help you quickly and efficiently.

Sorry.... like the sound we can hear in the song the groove from Muse or in muse songs. I don't want the hysteria one.....to much gear on it.

Thanks,
Ben.

If this is accurate then Chris uses an EHX Russian Big Muff and a Boss OS-2 as drive pedals.
That'll be a good way to start with these pedals. (Or Bass Big Muff instead of Russian.)

You can have any combination you want. It's your sound...
Different combinations of effects have different outcomes and for each person's bass, cab, heads, rack gear, etc, it will sound different.

Check out the Muse wiki link above. If you have particular questions about particular effects, run a search. If you don't find the answer you need, ask away!

According to the wiki, for dist/fuzz, he uses:
Human Gear Animato Distorion
Electro Harmonix Russian Big Muff Pi
Digitech Bass Synth Wah

So you have distortion, fuzz, and 'synth'. The muff and BSW are relatively easy to find, especially on ebay. DosiYanarchy is selling his russian muff on the classifieds, last I checked.

What's your price range? You don't have your gear listed in your profile...that might help too!

I got a genz-benz 6.0 shuttle and a 4x10 transporter cab from hartke. I got a musicman 5 string and a 4 string marcus mille from fender.

My range price.... under 400.... I don't matter about the price... just not like 600$ each pedal :P

I heard that the micro bass synth from EHX is good.... for synth and fuzz sound. And I want to get close of Chris sound, but not the exact sound :P

Thanks,
I really appreciate your answer
Ben.

It is good for synthy square wave stuff...You can make some fuzzy synth like Chris, but not exact...

That would be a good start + a big muff.

If any others talkbass users know something about the question I ask ! :P Fell free to answer. I've read a lot of thread on Chris effects and distortion/fuzz pedal. But for you, what combination of pedals or only single pedal could do the job for what I'm looking for?

I really appreciate the answer I got, but to make my mind clear I just want some others advice.

Thanks,
Ben.

You might not get many/any responses at all since this topic has been played out over the last year quite a bit.
You really have had your answer all along...the best you're gonna get is getting the same pedals he has, which mostly tend to be on the under $200 side of things. Not many people on this board could afford the insane rack units and production jawns...
