As many know, Grygrx is the de facto bass fuzz ruler.
I occasionally see you selling various fuzz and drive pedals in the forums, but my question to you sir is:
Which fuzz pedals are your favorites?
I, and I'm sure many others, would love to know which fuzz pedals you keep; what do you use daily; and which ones do you daydream about?
tapping the kind of expertise you represent is rare.
Obviously, no obligation to answer, but boy would i relish a response!
peace. |

The Fatman didn't make that list for some reason. I've never tried one myself, but I always thought it was a distortion and not a fuzz, or am I wrong? |

The dirt side is quite harsh indeed, at times very unnatural sounding even, but most certainly is not a fuzz. Then again, the oscillating fuzz side/version isn't fuzz so much as it is chaos, so really, unlike any other pedal, I must dub it Nyarlathotep: The Crawling Chaos.

I don't feel like I have an UBER favorite fuzz, so much is about context.
I'm playing bass in one band right now. I'm using the Sonic VI Champion Fuzz (B&M / Jumbo Tonebender Clone) on my board, its a roots/mood rock/country vibe.
I've also been getting started with a punk band (guitar), I really haven't settled on anything. Though I was thinking the 3xfx Fatman and a Big Muff of some kind. FYI I do tend to consider the Fatman a distortion these days rather than a fuzz. It's a distinctive little pedal that I would love to find the right application for.
I do a lot of fooling around with writing and recording songs. I use the D*A*M Ram Head almost constantly in that situation, though it doesn't cut through very well live.
I was hoping to use the TLSF in my last band, which was more of an angry rock trio, but that deal kind of imploded. It's a high gain, razor cut explosion... and I love it.
I like a lot of things, for very different reasons. I'm not a collector by nature, so I don't keep everything. The things I do keep offer up something that is either the best in class that I've tried or something unique.
Things I own right now, things in bold are things I've review and made decisions about keeping: - 3Xfx Fatman
- D*A*M Ramhead
- Malekko Barker ASSMASTER (double germ pink special edition)
- Tentacle Love Super Fuzz
- EHX Bass Big Muff
- ElectroniX Facedrive
- EHX Black Russian Muff
- Wounded Paw Battering Ram
- Sonic VI Champion Fuzz
- WMD - Geiger Counter
- Lovetone - Cheese Source
- D*A*M - 1966
- D*A*M - Super Bee
- Skin Pimp - MKIII
That's what I can remember, I'm sure I missed something...

I'm a low talent hack with a little money and OCD. I'll never make a mark in music, so I figured this was something I could do to contribute and participate with something I love. |

I didn't see a review last time I was at BassFuzz, but you've had it for a little while now right? |

I've played with it, but mostly in a make sure it works and doesn't suck kind of way. I'll need to spend a bunch more time before I'd be comfortable making much commentary. As suggested I noticed it was a bit low end shy. I've been using my 'messing around time' on my new Skinpimp MKIII with both bass & guitar. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
