hey, i play in an alternative rock band that have only really started to write originals so thats all i can say for our genre atm. I want YOUR opinion, i have up to 70(maybe 80 if the pedal is just what im looking for)euro to spend on a pedal. iv been looking at the helter skelter/polish love pedal, that seems very nice and for a great price too. was also looking at an EHX octave multi-plexer but im not too sure anymore. but the one type of pedal i think i need the most is something to give me a clean tone that i like, (my main bass is a G&L L-2000 tribby and my amp is an Ampeg BA115 220 watt verson.......with wheels.lol ) i just cant seem to get a tone i like through that amp, when i listen to my bass when its plugged straight into a mixer it sounds great but then through the amp its not as good. so im wondering if theres some kind of sansamp style pedal(with-in my price range)that will help my problem until i can affford a new amp??

any help is appreciated... thank you.

P.S: my fav kind of tone is a growly sting-ray style tone if possible.

I don't normally recommend Behringer, but you might want to give their BDI121 a try. It's their copy of the Sansamp, and it's cheap.

The thing is though, you say you like a clean tone, and you say you like the sound of the bass plugged into a mixer, which is def. a clean tone. If your amp colors the tone in a way you don't like, adding any other coloring preamp in the chain is just going to make things worse, not better. You can't "clean up" an amp that colors your tone.

I guess though the other option would be an Aphex Exciter. People like those for getting a more articulate sound from a not-so-great amp.

Sounds like you need a new amp rather than a pedal... I doubt that a pedal will truely get you where you want to be.

Sorry if that's not what you want to hear, but I think the best thing you can do is try out a bunch of amps locally, and wait for a great deal to come up on a used one that you do like. You could sell your Ampeg to cover the cost?

The BDDI or behringer clone can make things sound great, but will not (as Bongo says) make your sound cleaner/flatter.

yeah, thanks guys for your help. i figured as much i wasnt going to be able to get the "mixer" tone out of my amp... i really dont like behringer(lol) so ill take a look at that Aphex Exciter, thanks. how much are 8/9 month old BA115's going for these days? do u think ill be able to buy a whole new amp with the money i get from it?lol
