As to EBS, I like the Valve Drive alot. Very natural sounding od, and variable from smooth grit to all out tube grind. It got a bad review on Bongo's compressor thread, but I like the TRex Squeezer alot. Very tweakable, all the right controls, very transparent and quiet. And I did try a number of other compressors before settling on the TRex. There's tons more, seek and ye shall find. |

and look at all the brands, pick some stuff you like, and then post a new thread and then we can help you narrow it if we've played it before |

about the delay pedal, i would perfer the Diamond memory-lane and the compressor is also Diamond too......
i have had some EBSes, include a custom-made octa-bass( custom japanese made foot-switch and custom "black&white n&o-face" finish ), but i sold them all after i got the Aguilar db924. because the EBSes are little tone suck when i used db924. the EBS comp is really noise-less and punch, powerful for rock music or power slap tone, but i think the T-rex is better when you want to a dynamicful fingerstyle tone. i don't like the T-rex 's big body and electronic-bypass. the Keeley comp is a cool ROSS style too, and it's very kick ass when it have added the trim and attack pot......
if you have a fuzz in your toyzboard you maybe have some funny. Z-vex and Roger Mayer made some great fuzz pedals for bassplayer. and i think the cheaper one, G.I. Fuzz made by Mi Audio from Austrilia has more funny.
and don't forget something to keep your singal and tone when you used 3 pedals or more...it will be a buffer/preamp or some great cables......i hate tone-sucker pedals...

i guess i am interested in compressors, enelope filters, delay/modulation. | There is no such thing as a holy grail, because our individual tastes are always going to differ significantly.
EBS makes quality gear, no doubt, (as does Pigtronix) but it comes down to preference.
What you're going to get with a generic question like this is either people asking you to be more specific (do a search) or simply a list of people's favorite gear, which might be useful for making a list of things to research, but otherwise doesn't help you in your quest for the sounds you're looking for.
I'd be happy to tell you my favorite compressors, filters and delays if you want, but I think you'd be better served rephrasing your question to get more specific info. What kind of music do you play? What kinds of sounds do you want to achieve? What's your budget? These are all helpful things to know.

There are countless brands/builders/names/etc. that have amazing tone, a whole lot of them are discussed here. I'm not going to pick a favourite, but the only brand I have more than one pedal of on my board is Homebrew Electronics.

I use it in a bypass looper with a distortion so its not a problem for me, but I wouldn't want to use it without my looper. I'm not sure if all EBS pedals do this but its something to consider. |
