Hmmm.... Pedal order on my Gorm IKEA PB?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey there fellow Funkateers and lovers of the low end...

I'm putting the finishing touches on my first ever pedalboard.... I've been playing a long time but only ever really used a compressor until now (apart from a few pedals I bought in my teens which I never really used much). And I've gone a bit crazy with the whole reading, surfing, reading, surfing, buying, GAS cycle....

Here's a pic... Placements are a bit arbitrary so far...

Clockwise from top right:

TC Elec Polytune
EBS Multicomp
3Leaf GR2 (ordered)
TC Elec Corona chorus (ordered)
Boss RC-3
DOD Stereo Flanger
SFX Micro Fuzz (ordered)
Xotic BB Bass Preamp
MXR BOD

(Not in the picture.... Old Boss OC-2 with a faulty Octave2 POT; Old, old DOD FX75 - not the bass version).

So... Any suggestions on order? I'd like to use the GR2 effect loop...

How is this:

Tuner -> GR2 -> (effects loop: MXR BOD -> Xotic BB -> Micro Fuzz) -> GR2 Again -> Compressor -> Chorus -> Flanger -> Looper -> Amp

Thoughts? Whaddyathink? Do any of the pedals not on there deserve a place?

I know it's pretty subjective but I would love some feedback.

(My IKEA GORM shelf kit is nice and green now, and will have Velcro applied shortly).

Thanks all!

I'd go like this:

TC Elec Polytune
EBS Multicomp
MXR BOD
Xotic BB Bass Preamp
SFX Micro Fuzz
3Leaf GR2
TC Elec Corona chorus
DOD Stereo Flanger
Boss RC-3

But that's just me.

Interesting. Very similar to my first thought. The only difference really being I put the GR2 before the compressor and used the effects loop for the octave / wah / fuzz.

I should get (almost) the rest of the pedals today so I'll have an experiment.

Thanks for the comments... It looks like I'm almost there.

I would go tuner>BOD>GR2 (microfuzz in loop)>Chorus>Flanger>Comp>RC-3>BB

But I am thinking of how I use pedals. A preamp pedal to me is at the end of my chain and always on. It puts the final touches on everything so it always has my sound.
I also have very limited use of compressors. I figure I want pedals that make use of dynamics to not have compressed input, that is why I would put it after modulation.

Such a subjective subject

Thanks for your comments and I completely agree that it's subjective.

When my GR2 finally arrives I'll be doing some serious experimenting.... ;-)

The Xotic and TC Elec Chorus both arrived about an hour ago. From initially 10 minute testing they are both great. Very pleased with the purchases!

Yep. I tend to put filters and modulation before dirt, which will sound significantly different than the opposite. I also run a preamp at the end of my chain, which is always on. To the OP, I can assure you, since you are new to the world of effects, your mind will change innumerable times as you learn, and your best-laid plans shall be cast asunder as you do.

I split it up a bit, I have so much Fuzz/OD/Dist on my board. I would be robbing myself if I didn't get the best of both worlds.
