I have seen where a few guys have replaced thier BMS with HOGs. Is there anything that the BMS can do that the HOG can't...Just curious.

The filter section of the BMS is totally different to the HOG. Try both and you'll see what I mean. |

Unfortunaly the GC here only gets the Hogs in on a Special order basis. Can you do "Tom Sawyer" type synth sounds with the HOG? That is about all i use mine for...pretty much a waste...

BMS- definitely has some unique sounds- especially with the attack delay- which cannot be replicated on a hog as far as i can tell. first synth ive owned- and took a little bit to get used to how it responds to volume changes- and held/bent notes. if youre careful- you can keep the notes going- if youre not- they can abruptly end.
HOG- sounds a little metallic- but also has some crazy synth sounds. i can replicate most of the BMS sounds with the HOG- overdrive- and qtron. that said- i am one leg shy of being able to hit all 3- so its nice to have the BMS for that- just one button and you get crazy sounds.
the BMS has features only it can do- but whether or not those features are worth $250 when most of it can be done with a couple of other pedals- not sure. will hold onto it for now- fun pedal.
EDIT- as far as GC having the HOG- when i tried to get one in store (SF CA store)- all they had was a broken one with no power plug (which they didnt mention- and i drove 1.5hrs to buy)- and their system said only 2 other GC locations had one as of 2-3 weeks ago- and those are LA/orange county. chances are you'll have to get one site unseen.

Those sliders work on both the attack and sustain of either the high or low frequencies, below the mid-point increases attack delay, above the mid-point increases the speed of the decay time. |

Thats actually part of how I got it, my guitarist bought it and couldnt figure out anything that he really liked and then I played with it and loved it. I filled the pre-sets on the foot controller withing the first few hours I had it. |

I am in love w/ it...From the way it looks right now, I'm keeping the XO microsynth too. I can't get the spacey filter sweeps to be as strong on the HOG as the microsynth.
Best feature on the HOG is the expression switch...no need for an external expression pedal...lovin' it...
If they could make this stock on the microsynth, it would rip! |

I have a setting where the expression pedal about halfway down sounds just like a bassballs. |

I had a BMS first, but just couldn't like the octave section on it, and getting the thing to trigger correctly was a nightmare of screwdriver work. I moved on to the POG, and then after that, to a HOG. I have to say that I am really pleased with the HOG right now. Using it as well as some other pedals creates a whole multitude of different sounds. It's deffinitely a fun pedal that will be staying on my board.
Also, I'd suggest getting an expression pedal as well. It really is handy to use when you want to utilize the full potential of the exression pedal settings. |

Does anyone what the highest pot value is for the expression? Will 100K linear work or is that too high? |

Thanks!
If anyone finds out something different, post away! |

I like it much more than the crummy M-Audio plastic one they include with the HOG. That thing broke in a few weeks, and my new one can even stand up to me literally standing on it. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
