Home-made pedal board

I have 4 pedals and don't need to spend $70-$100 on a pedal board. I already have a 1 Spot, so all I need is some kind of black plate where the pedals can be velcro'ed.

Besides buying a wooden plate and painting it black, what are the options?

I've recently made a couple pedalboards and I love 'em. I used a nice pine board, cut to fit the pedals I intended to mount with an extra 'handle' space in the middle top. I multi-coated with tung oil, applied industrial strength velcro, a comfortable drawer handle and rubber feet, all from Home Depot. I use a One-Spot as well. Very cool looking minimalist rigs - I made one for my primary trio of pedals and a second for my somtimes added 'freaky' sounds, I like the modular option.

I used a small piece of 3/8" plywood covered with Veltex (loop-side Velcro fabric) and six stick-on rubber feet on the bottom. The board is cut to fit inside an ATA-sytle briefcase. Persoanally, I prefer my board to be flat on the floor (rather than angled up) and as low-profile as possible. This setup gets the job done for me.

The case also serves as storage for cables, stand, extra strings, tool, etc.

There are a few threads here on boards built up from Ikea gorm shelf thingies, and at least one 'show yer home-made board' thread...do a search here in effects and you'll have a bunch 'o links.

Get this...3 dollars. Cheaper than the wood and screws and saw you'd need to build it.

I found an old typewriter at Goodwill, complete with case (looks like a suitcase for a child). It works great as a pedal board and case because the lid is removable, and the bottom is shallow (so as to not interfere with typing). I threw away the typewriter, etc., and put velcro strips on the bottom. BAM! Instant pedal board case.

I gutted an old case for an electric screwdriver - it's basically a small suitcase, like mileszs'. Small, lightweight and sturdy enough.
