Home-Modifying A DOD Bass Stereo Flanger???

Sign in to disble this ad
How would I go about modifying my useless DOD Bass Stereo Flanger (FX72)? Can I do this without a soldering gun or without fear of electrocution? Awesome....

What's wrong with it???

Do you not like the sound or is it faulty? Either way, you're prolly going to need a soldering gun. And you wont be getting electrocuted... unless you stick the 9v on your tongue or something

You need to know how to solder, and have a decent soldering iron, and also know a bit about circuit design, or at a minimum have some clear instructions for modding that specific model. Search here on 'modding' and 'DIY' for many links and clues.

What exactly is "useless" about it?

Yeah, I tweaked the trimpots inside an old Ibanez Soundtank delay & now it thinks it's analog(self-oscillates, real-time tweakable, lo-fi). Not sure what i'd want my flanger to do as I'm happy w/it, but I'll see...

+1. This is what I am talking about. I bought this pedal in 1987. Then I heard some music by secular doom fusion pioneers JESUS FIST, who via mind control, commanded me to try and modify anything that has wires in it. You can keep Satan away by modifying stuff.........................allegedly......

Personally I would never modify that particular flanger as they are one of my favourite ones. Not unless it was not working right. They have that thick, warm analog sound to them. Once you start turning the trimpots inside, about the only way to get them back to factory setting is to use an oscilloscope. But if that's what your looking for go for it.

Well, I took the bottom off my FX-72 but didn't know what to do next, so I didn't get to any trimpots. Anyone know how to get all the way inside old DOD boxes? Pics would help hugely.
