Honey Tone rehouse question

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking to rehouse my Danelectro Honey Tone amp into stomp box form. My plans involve disconnecting the speaker, use a dbdt or 3pdt switch for on/off instead of the switch connected to the volume knob, keep the headphone out, and add a 1/4 out so I can use it as a dirt pedal should I so feel like it. Could really use insight on how to wire the switch, and add the 1/4 out.

Here's a pic of the board.

Hmm, interesting idea...I bet you'd be one of the few if not only guy to do this. Any chance of posting clips when it's finished?

Gladly of someone could give me some input or at least point me in the direction of how to combat the switch and output issues.

Check the Beavis website for more details on his Dano rehouses.

I don't think you need to add a 1/4" out. Unless you are going to have headphones plugged in at the same time you are connecting it to an amp or another pedal, the headphone out and the output can be the same thing. If the headphone out is currently 1/8" just replace the jack. Of course you may have a super hot output then but it could work.

I would make a suggestion about the power switch but I'm not sure I understand how the honey tone works. Is it one one of those deals where it clicks when the vol. knob is all the way down? Are you trying to have an on off switch and a stomp style bypass? Bypass and power are never the same thing in my experience but I guess you could do that with a 3PDT assuming the Honey Tone already has an LED that comes on when the circuit gets power. You would just wire the first two poles like a DPDT true bypass that doesn't have an LED. Then instead of creating a power connection for an LED with 3rd pole, you would create a power connection for the whole circuit.

Edit: you may find there's a reason pedal makers don't wire bypass's and power together already.

I did some brainstorming/planning, and I think I know how I'm going to tackle the switch. Leave the switch on/off on the volume pot (yes Mingus it is that kind). Add a 3pdt switch so I can bypass the whole thing should I want to. Add a second LED to indicate when it's being bypassed since the original will indicate if it's on or not. The problem I run into here is how do I wire it so I get power to both LEDs from 1 9V source since one is wired to the board and the other the switch.

As for the output, I think I'll take your advice and just switch the 1/8 jack for a 1/4 jack, but add a variable resistor between the board and the jack. Would this work? What would be a good value to start with?
