How can I get this sound?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am thinking about venturing back into using effects and I really like this real synth-y sound you hear a lot in dub.
This guy is a great example of what I'd like to do
Eklektik session - Fat Burning Step rehersal - YouTube
How can I try and get his sound, or at least get started learning about it? Obviously he has a lot going on, but does anyone have any suggestions as to where I could start looking?

I did a bit of searching and the closest single effects seemed to me to be the Boss SYB-5 and the Electro Harmonics Micro Bass Synth but neither seem to give the depth this man can achieve with his mysterious monster.

Thanks for your help!

PS It seems like something that would be frowned upon, but I couldn't find anything in the FAQ against this kind of post. Sorry if its against the rules!

Check out the last two videos on his MySpace page. There are pop-ups pointing out most of his pedal board. The rest are pretty easy to figure out like the Moog taurus pedals, etc.

BOND | Free Music, Tour Dates, Photos, Videos

Be prepared to shell out a LOT of cash to get a board like this.

His name is Radek Bednarz but he goes by the name BOND. Here are some more videos to check out:

Live Bass Modulation BOND @ BASS DAY UK 2007 - YouTube

FAT BURNING STEP - Live Dubstep Workout - YouTube

FAT BURNING - JAPAN WOBBLER (live) - YouTube

I've been trying to get some of these sounds and have come close with similar pedals. A far easier way to do it (and cheaper) would be to use Abelton Live or Logic Studio on a Mac Book Pro.

Sorry for so many replies but I've tried the two pedals that you mentioned and they don't come close. If you're really serious go for the Moogerfoogers. Low Pass, Freq Box, Ring Mod and Analog Delay with a Boss OC-2 and some sort of distortion pedal with a couple of expression pedals and you'll be set. Or try what Chris Hargreaves uses with Submotion Orchestra or his own Arkell & Hargreaves Live Dubstep duo and get a Line 6 M9 with Abelton and a MIDI MuRF.

The guy in the video has a GK3 pickup on his bass and you see a Roland GI20 on his rack , it must drive some external MIDI synth module.

BTW With a VB99 you can come really close to something like this.

Hey thanks a bunch for all the great info. I had no idea where to start and this really helps.
I had a feeling that those pedals I listed seemed a couple tiers down from what I was looking for, and those seem more like it.
