How closely do you layout your pedals

Sign in to disble this ad
Some boards have plenty of room between the pedals, others have the pedals spaced as closely as geometry allows. When you are laying out your pedals for attaching to your board, cutting cable and running power, do you tend to: a) leave enough space between pedals to allow the signal cable to be inserted and removed without moving adjacent pedals, or b) space them very closely in a way that you couldn't unplug one pedal without disturbing adjacent pedals?

I leave enough space that still lets me put all my pedals on the board.

As closely as possible for me. I like to squeeze as many pedals as I can onto my board...

This close:

I actually downsized from a Pedaltrain Pro when I started zeroing in on what I wanted. At this point it's a process to try and swap out any pedal on my board outside of my phaser (currently a HBE Psilocybe rather than the DOD) but that's the way I like it.

Tight as possible. In fact I don't even leave room for plugs and cables, I just set the pedal output jacks so close to each other that the signal just jumps across the tiny gap from pedal to pedal.

No, but there is a slight (well total) volume drop. But on the upside, ZERO tone suck from those superfluous cables.

Not close enough, for sure. This is a problem, because I have a VT Bass on the way, and I plan on buying a Copilot Android and a Wilson Freaker Wah. More importantly, the Amazing Technicolor Nightmare Pedalboard can't even handle my current load (my 105Q is on the floor).

Well, judge for yourselves:

There was a board posted on here once that had pedals stacked vertically! It had some Boss PS-3s stacked on each other...

No idea how thats meant to work

Also, to answer the original post...

Closely for me. If they aren't close, then there is wasted space on the board. If there is a heap of space left over, id prefer to have a smaller, easier to handle board.

Very closely. Even though I have no real need to. I have plenty of room left.

A decent gap between pedals, 'bout 3 or 4 fingers worth.
I like to bounce around a bit on stage - in between vocal demands - so having the pedals spaced apart a bit gives me a better chance of hitting the effect I want

Honestly - some of the pedalboards I've seen in the "post your pedalboard" threads don't look very functional for a fella like me with big feet.
Lots of 3pdt switches only 3 or 4cm apart! Wow!

I leave a fair amount of space between pedals because I have big feet and do lots of switching mid song, even then sometimes I will switch 2 or more on at a time by mistake and have to go for the loop selector to eject.

As close together as possible for me. I've got a good number of pedals on my board, and I don't want to carry two boards. (right now, anyways..)

As close as physically possible, and I still can't squeeze out enough room to fit my PitchBlack on my board. Not that my DT-10 is a horrible unit, but I would have liked to fit everything on my pedalboard as opposed to running it off of the "Tuner Out" on my "Mo' Control 2" controller and sitting off to the side.

It's hard to get 'em close and still be able to stomp the second row without whacking all the knobs on the front row.

I usually try to get some sort of diagonal pattern happening so the stomp switches on the second row are between pedals on the front row, but it never really works very well. I think I should just have less pedals.

mine are set up right next to each other. all the cables run out of the top of my pedals, and through the slots in my board. I designed it specifically for that purpose.

I've tried to always use bypass loopers or pedal switchers the past few years so that I can pack as many pedals as closely together as possible without having to worry about needing room to stomp on them. With my current board setup, I couldn't even step on the switches for my Bass Big Muff and VT Bass if I wanted to, and my Micro POG pedal is completely hidden from view (as is my Boss VF-1, but that one has no footswitch).
