how to cope with loss of low end?

i recently got my hands on a vintage 80s mxr distortion + i love it to death, the sound i get is amazing, BUT, i want to know how to cope with low end loss, i tried just boosting the bass on my amp but that just makes me lose the gritt, should i get a bass booster (the mole is in mind) or should i just get over it? thanks for the help

You want a blender pedal, like the Xotic X Blender, or better yet, a better overdrive/distortion pedal.

you need a splitter/blender or a crossover. That way the lows stay clean and the top end gets distorted

Pop it open, trace the circuit and increase the value of the input cap.

If that's over your head, ask your local amp tech if he/she can do it for ya.

ive never done it, but from what i understand the character will be pretty much intact. it just wont sound like your bass disappeared in the mix when you turn it on live.

But you will be adding bass to what gets distorted. The bass has more energy (larger voltage swings) and will distort before the high end.

There are several different theories on how to deal with loss of low end on effects.

Unfortunately, none of them work.
