It's either on like, a suuuuper slow flanger, or, as I think I hear, a bass and a keyboard both playing, with the keys on a fade-in or a slow LFO.

heres another example

at around 3:30ish

the keys guy is doing something totally different (and on the dvd he does the same) but the tone and swell are still there.

On the first clip you (more like I can) can hear the bass starts the riff as the keyboard gets blended in and finally the bass cuts out (that is was it sounds like to me). But as for the rest of it it sounds too good for it to be a bass. Backing tracks? Midi bass? Dunno.

so this wouldn't be achievable with a Synth pedal and maybe a flanger?

I was thinking a slow flanger with a microsynth with the low octave boosted, but i'd have to **** with the attack delay and soundwave.

did kinda have that microsynth-squarewave bite to it. slow flange and any fuzz of similar flavor should do you well, me thinks.

Just a softer attack and rolling back on tone knob should be fine, an ebow might be overdoing it because I think I still hear articulation in every note. just my opinion

I think it'll be impossible to get a bass to sound identical to that, it's just too damn synthy. Ebow might not be a bad idea. A low pass filter is also a good idea.
