How to deal w/ losing a job after getting into effects?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am a single father who just started to dabble in effect about 6 months ago. I went from nothing to a PB1 w/ hardcase, PP2+, G50, PB, M90, Guyatone comp ST2, MXR BOD, Fuzzrocious GS, Small Clone (sold), VT Bass(Traded) and now a MXR M-80. ANd a few here and there that came and went. I'm thinking the only way to stop the ridiculous GAS for more, is to sell everything and get a Multi. I honesty don't use enough effects in my current project to justify the money I have dropped into my board. I don't use the BOD at all, my head has a good built in comp, and I use the fuzz and Phaser in spurts during one song that was written w/o effects in mind. I'm in a death metal band, I don't need effects.

So what should I do? Keep what I have and Fight the urges for more useless, but uber fun, effects. Sell everything off here in the TB Classified, or trade some gear for a real nice Multi? I leaning toward a Multi at this point.

Sell everything and get an M9 or M13 depending on your requirements and the deal you can find on either (M13's seem really cheap second hand)

If you have to buy new let me know and I'll hook you up with a 10% discount to my fav retailer to help you out. But this will never be as cheap as buying used

Really, a M9 or M13 would be best. I was kind of thinking an older POD XT Live. I like the idea of the volume/expression pedal built in.

I have the M9, I love it. You'd have to buy an expression pedal separate for it, but you could get a higher quality one then the XT. I haven't used the M9 in the studio yet, but its been great for live work. I would keep your dirt pedals if you get one, one of the few areas of the M9 thats not so bass friendly. The bass octave setting is worth the price of admission.

Don't get the XT, you'll only be disappointed. The M9 or M13 will give you the most satisfaction. I have an M9, but I rarely use it as I've settled on the "Final 6 Pedals" that I really enjoy. I'm going to wait a little while and sell off all the others that I've collected over the years.

If you want a multi, IMHO, you're only question is if you want a smaller unit with three effects or if you want a larger unit with four effects. (Larger unit. That's what she said.)

Get the M9 or the M13.

I'd say to just wait and see. Octavers, Fuzz, phasers and the M-80 are all really great choices for a metal band to add thickness and general awesomeness. I would wait until I was really sure about what I liked/didn't like/didn't need and then make a decision. I think you might need a little more time with the effects you have before you start selling them off. Plus, the more you discover the uses of the effects you have, the less likely it is that GAS will strike (at least, not as bad).

Just FYI, I really don't like multi-effects, and I am the WORST at selling off effects before I really get to know them.

IMHO the effects in the M9/M13 are vastly better than the old tech in the XT.

IDK, I'm thinking I could sell/trade my stuff of for a M9 and still have $$$ left over for what I have on my board. I'm sure someone one here is looking to do the exact opposite as I am and I do have a great beginning to an awesome board. Be on the look out for a fire sale with in the next few days. Everything but the G50 will be up for sale/trade.

I hate being laid off. I need the extra cash to keep my son in daycare.

sell it all, and if you find a real need for effects, you can always buy 'em again.

Hey I am in the same boat. I just got my"position eliminated" a week ago and i hate having to watch every penny. I luckily had my own business going on the side for years so I am trying to make that work full time. I do have an M9 that I like, however I dont need it. I never sold the pedals that I got the M9 to replace, so I was thinking about possibly selling it. If you can raise the cash, PM me.

Why dont you try the Boss GT-10B? It's exclusive for bass (has a lot of good preamps), mas has a looper anda a expression pedal.

And the effects are amazing.

That isn't out of the realm of possibilities.

Outside of a relatively small set of "collector" basses and amplifiers, electronic musical equipment is notorious for wicked depreciation. My advice would be to keep the effects you've got vs. trying to unload them for what literally could wind up being pennies on the dollar (especially in the current economy).... and then potentially having to go out in 6 months and replace them all at double the price you paid for them the first time (yes, inflation is here, it is big-time, it is global and it's not going away anytime soon).

Whatever you do, do NOT go out and buy anymore gear. Unless you are a full-time working musician whose livelihood depends on your gear, effects totally fall into the category of "discretionary purchases" ... which is the first category of living expense that should always be shut down when your income is cut off.

You can use the M13 with Y wiring or a Boss LS-2 to get stereo effects, which can range from clean tone mixed with 4 effects to 2 effects mixed with another 2, all from the control of your scene setup.

This also avoids the low-end loss with the bass-unfriendly distortions.

Last week, i was using a normal bass tone paralleled with a octup->drive->chorus->delay tone.

Haha seriously, your band is awesome. Do a spring mini-tour. You guys could easily pull $750-1000 a gig. Go make that cheddar son!

Im just some dude you went to high school with... I thought we bonded over some Anthrax! : (

You got my whole office sick, three people died, and the building has been quarantined for almost a year. I wanted you to send me a copy of Among The Living, not an envelope full of white powder.

P.S. Thanks for the band props.

The GT-10B from Boss does this very well. It has two channels, and two XLR outputs. It's a monster! You can configure everything!! You can have on channel wet and the other dry!
