?How do I bend my pitch?

Sign in to disble this ad
I saw a Jack Conte video on YouTube a while Ago where he bends the pitch of a note he's playing on his electric piano with a foot pedal.

Can this be applied to bass guitar? Is it what they call a volume pedal or is it something different?

What I'd like to achive is bending a whole note over four beats down or up a full step and a half.

Anybody know what I need?

A Digitech Whammy Pedal is the classic answer, though I've heard that the Eventide Pitch Factor can do it better for more money.

Volume pedals control volume.

EHX HOG also does pitch bends. It's prices somewhere in between the Whammy and Pitchfactor.

i dont think this song happens to be in a key where B# is a concern of yours- its C, so your looking for something that can bend your pitch up a minor third. im not sure if a digitech whammy can do that.. i think the boss pitch shifter has an exp. input, doesent it? that might work.

the pitchfactor can do anything, but its a lot more money than you prob want to spend.

If you want a minor third, then a Boss PS-3 or PS-5 can do that, but you would need the external expression pedal as well.

The only way you're going to do that on a HOG, PS3, whatever w/ an expression pedal is going to be to do it manually...which will take A LOT of practice and precise hearing.

The HOG can do an octave bend or a step bend, but each can be manipulated with an expr pedal to hit any note in b/w...but that's really hard to be exact!!!

I don't believe any whammys can do a 3rd pitch bend. There are harmony modes that have a 3rd as an option, but that's not quite the same thing.

See, that's what I'm looking for. Epic note bend, not pitch or effect or whatever.

Note bend and pitch shift are the same thing and yes, you are looking for an effect.

The Boss PS-5 will do what you want (and a whole lot more). I used to have one so I'm speaking from experience. It will shift your pitch up or down a minor 3rd. However, you will need an external expression pedal but you can those for about $30.

How much do you want?

You're seriously going to need to elaborate if you want help! The boss PS-5 can do anything from -2 octaves to + 2 octaves.

Define epic and you may get helpful responses.

If you find a used Behringer X V-Amp, the floor mounted one, it's very cheap and has a built-in expression pedal and pitch-shifting capability. I used one on guitar briefly, you can set it to normal pitch with the pedal in one position, and whatever interval you want at the other end of travel, and shift between them easily and smoothly. It worked very well on guitar.

With a Moog exp. pedal, it's easy to dial in minor thirds or any other interval with the HOG. Any other exp. pedal can be quite easily modded with a limit pot.
