heres the thing: i just bought a crate bt220, and i have a really cheap bass. im on a really low budget, and i want a kind of sound similar to that of johny christ from a7x when they play live. is there some kind of setting i can set my amp to or like a pedal i can buy to replicate his sound?

the guy from A7X uses GK, and probably some sort of pedal, most people do

OK, I did the legwork and looked up some live A7X on Youtube. Helpful hint- if you want somebody to tell you how to get the sound you hear in your head, post a link of that sound.

All I saw or heard was a Stingray, played with a pick, with bright roundwounds. Any grunge you may have heard was probably just fret clatter through a very large amp.

So the first steps with the cheap bass and small practice amp will be the bright rounds and the pick. Next step might be the Behringer BDI, because it emulates an SVT amp and it's cheap.

After a while you might think it's time to buy another distortion box, but that would be sort of a mistake. What you really need to save up for, if you want a big sound, is a powerful amp. No two ways about it.

Eat some chicken wings and start playing without washing your hands first.

I thought that only made flatwounds sound "better"?
