How do I recreate this type of bass distortion?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey there,

I'm currently planning a completely new set up; head, cab, pedals... the lot... well besides the bass.

Does anyone know what distortion Julia Ruzicka from Million Dead used or how to get a similar sound using pedals and what not?

I've looked at a few popular makes and models and they just don't seem to cut it compared to the sound she gets on Song To Ruin and Harmony No Harmony.

Thanks.

Is there any way you could give us a link to the tone you're talking about?

i couldnt get a decent copy of the picture on this site (http://www.hippieburner.com/MDsite/index2.html) but in the first picture from the Bukandskit Festival you can see a Rat on the floor next to what looks like a boss chorus.

I didn't hear a single example of distorted bass on the last.fm link but yeah, that's a turbo rat in the live pic.

Agreed... sounds like bass with a pick to me. Nothing identifiable as bass distortion. I think you may be attributing guitar effect as bass effect.

Thanks Coreyfyfe!
Not to bash the band's technical skills, but their Last.fm page calls them a 'hardcore punk' band. I don't know if I should sigh or RRRRRRAAAAAGGEEEE!

Loads of bands are calling themselves hardcore punk nowadays that obviously don't know what it entails... it's pretty depressing. I quite like some of the bands in the kinda punk and roll kinda style genre like The Bronx, cos they actually seem to sound and act like a hardcore band. Far too many posers that have stolen the term though as with everything unfortunately.
