How do you carry/store your DIY pedal board?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just put together my first DIY pedal board, and now it's too big for the cool old suitcase I carried the individual pedals around in. I'm tryign to find some reasonably neat carrying case -something better than the pink backpack I had to grab form the store room, at least.

Have you found any unusual but cool ways to haul your pedal board about?

what size is the board?

i've had great luck with aluminum tool & gun cases. namely:
harborfreight.com for tool (these tend to be smaller) or for
25" - 48" x 15" x 6" search amazon.com for Rhyno AlumiTuff.

lots of other brands, shapes & sizes out there. these worked for me.

The first one I built...I built it specifically the size to be able to fit into a Jim Halpert type over the shoulder bagger thing.

The new one I'm building is being built into an ATA Flight Case. You can get one of them for $80ish...I know that's not real cheap....

those rhyno cases look pretty badass! but at 89 bucks I'm not sure there's something cheaper.
my board is just above 24" wide, which makes it too big for a funky \ old suitcase...

Look for an old suitcase or briefcase at a pawn shop.

!?!?!

I keep my DIY pedalboard in a genuine meets-or-exceeds-ATA-spec-300 briefcase built by Future Cases in Massachussetts...and believe me, it cost a lot more than $80! Eighty bucks is a steal for something that really is ATA 300 compliant.

I found a Gator bag that fits - they make a bunch of them that are sized for different keyboard units. Think that it cost me around $30. Mind you I wouldn't check it on a plane or let roadies throw it in the back of a trailer but for a no-name guy like me carrying my own stuff to gigs it works great. Mine holds my pedalboards, powerstrip, and two folding bass stands, and a music stand.

there's a 25" for $65

or if you just google shop search "aluminum gun case" there are options from other manufacturers.

here's my 35" Rhyno

& my bass board, a harbor freight tool case.

Oh yeah....I'm sure it's like buying a Folex for $5 off a guy on the streets.....but it works.

quick and easy solution:
wrap the pedalboard in a beach towel. holds everything together and provides plenty of padding.

seriously,
I've brought a towel to every gig and have found a use for it every time.

^ you think velcro will stick to that?
Could use a towel as DIY pedalboard. Just roll up and go! Ultra-lite!

I just picked up a STAGG pedal case for my GT10B. Lots of room. for it and 3" inches extra on the side for power supplies, patch cords and other cables. The pedal Velcro's down to the case so its doesn't move around. Nice robust case.

Keyboard road cases might work, if your dimensions match up.

Rondo makes cheap pedal board cases too, no idea if they are worthy though.

I have a cardboard box that I built, but I'm not gigging it.

Found a PT2 soft case for sale on here for $30. Fits my Ikea Gorm board pretty darn well.

'Built a board that fits inside an old typewriter case; includes DC Brick power supply.

It's small enough that I have to maintain a strict one-in one-out policy on pedals.

ha! I've got a Roland GR-300 (blue guitar synth floorbox from the early 1980s, a la Pat Metheny) and it fits perfectly in the plastic case from my old typewriter!
