Smile How do you get this sound?

Right after the short intro it's just bass & drums. How could one get this grind/tone? Thank you.

3:44 into the video gives you a great rig shot (not perfect though).

Fender P... Black-n-Maple always the best color for this tone
Pick
I think I see a BBE Sonic Maximizer in there.
The rest is not for me to figure out.

Fender P with pick, new strings, scooped EQ, maybe a touch of dirt from the amp or an overdrive/distortion pedal that doesn't cut out much bass.

I would say a B3K pedal would get you there quick and dirty.

thanks for the input. I used to have an SVT II but couldn't figure out how to dial in that grindy tone. Also, someone suggested an AMT BC-1 pedal for grind/dirt. Those are hard to find though...

I see a BBE SOnic Maximizer and an Ampeg, maybe the SVT-3 PRO since it's a two unit amp with a graphic EQ.

But a P-bass through a Sansamp BDDI will get you pretty close...

This.
Basically lots of gain and mids cut. I once had a peavey mark IV bass head that could do that by dropping the 4khz slider all the way down. However I needed a pair of P-bass pickups (as opposed to P/J) wired out-of-phase.

At 3:54 I'm seeing a P/J setup, I think??....

Definitely a SansAmp will do something very close to that, with just about anything you put thru it.

Thanks for all the input guys. Just out of curiosity, what did you guys think of the first song? This was a big hit in the local Seattle scene in the 90's.

Actually, I saw a pic on their reverbnation profile and there was a rather familiar looking orange and white box on the floor. The pic was a bit blurry, but it is rather hard to miss that color combination!

It is a pretty nice tone. I never saw the bass clearly enough to tell what kind of pickups he has on that bass, but they sound pretty hot. He is also picking pretty hard at the bridge, that will add some buzz, possibly if he is using lighter gauge strings. I'm not familiar with the BBE Sonic Maximizer, but I could hear were you might think is a Tech 21 stomp box like a VT Bass or BDDI. Having played through a Ampeg SVT350 Classic recently I can tell you that Ampeg does have a little natural grit to them. If I had the money, car and back for Ampeg I would be all over it.
