How do you get velcro to stick to wood?

Did quite the search and didn't find anything- though I did learn that Post-Your-Pedalboard 1 was started while I was in highschool, is almost 3000 posts and over 4 years long, and for the first couple years features mostly text descriptions of signal chains without photo accompaniment, but I digress.

I'm making a new wood pedalboard and when I've made them in the padt I've always found the sticky backing to not want to stick and had to use a lot of staples to reinforce it.

put a finish on the wood that is velcro glue friendly. (guy/girl at paint shop should know what is good if you can tell them the type of adhesive is in velcro

Use short wood screws and fasten the velcro to the board. Or use Gorilla glue and it'll be permanently fastened to the board.

When I built mine I used some 1x2's and some industrial strength velcro that was 2" wide. The velcro wrapped around the edges of the wood and has stayed in place since. That was a few years ago.

I'm pretty sure that not having a pedal pull up on the edge of the velcro was a huge help. So I guess my suggestion is use small strips of wood.

All of the above or a thin coat of E6000 glue also works

Industrial strength Velcro sticks to wood pretty well. I've never had it come off.

Light coat of paint or poly to smooth/seal the wood.

Also, if you want the velcro permanently glued to it, I use contact cement.

You can find more ideas in the DIY pedalboard thread:
Let's see the best homemade pedalboard! Post em'

I used 3M Super 77 spray adhesive with staples on the ends for my wooden board. It has held up to repeated pedal changes without ever pulling off the board.

The nice thing about contact cement is it's super strong and there is no need to also use staples, screws, nails, etc.

That's a very good point. My wood boards have always been painted black.

I covered my pedal board with automotive trunk liner, it was free for me and cheap for anybody else, you just hot glue the velcro to your pedals and they stick right to the carpet, the hot glue and velcro comes off from the back off the pedal fairly easily if you ever need to remove it.

Same here my board is flat black and never had a problem with the Velcro sticking.
