How do you power your pedals?

Sign in to disble this ad
For ecological, among other reasons, I have been thinking of stop
putting 9V Battery clips in my pedals... that idea got me curiours:

Batteries or Powersupplys?

Best Regards

Dunlop DC brick. I don't like the idea of having to care about batteries.

Batteries are no good, unless you get into the newest generation of rechargeable technology. There are other pedal builders that have stopped including battery snaps, and I 100% support you doing so.

My ex-gu!tarist's pedalboard was powered by a daisy chain. He used to order 9V batteries online and used to drop $25 on them for his whole (12+ pedals) board at once. Never sweated it.

Me? I'm going to use a power supply. Batteries suck.

I am glad to hear that. Actually one of the main problems with batteries in stompboxes, is that most of pedals (specially Preamps, Overdrives and Compressors) will start sounding bad as soon as the battery voltage goes lower than 7,5V (some of them even sooner) which means that all these batteries will be discarded before they reach 33% of battery life... which is a disgrace.
Thanks everyone for posting!

Hmm, I've been using batteries. I probably ought to get a power supply ...

Thanks bongomania! Actually there's another plus... the room the battery uses can be used for veeery cool stuff as well...

My pedal board has a power supply, but I also need to have a power strip on my board to handle the 18v wall wart for my MuTron, and the wall wart for the board itself. Definitely time to upgrade the pedal board!

The pedals on both pedal boards are all powered by 1Spots, happy with those. The loose pedals have batteries in them so I can grab and go.

I use a one spot and the wall wart for my Q-tron+. I really hate batteries and support you in doing away with them in your designs. However, will you include a wall wart with each pedal? Some folks might feel that it's warranted if they can't run off of a battery.
I once even rigged up an adapter for my bass' preamp.

Ok . Let me say a few things . I live in India . The power here is not regulated as well as say USA or Europe . So its a complete no no for things like One Spot .

I think power sources like Voodoo Labs Pedal Power II are the safest and most secure .

Also I have noticed that unless you are using batteries like Duracell, batteries are also a no no because I have no clue how the battery was made and how stringent the quality control is at the place where the battery was made . So there are chances that the battery might do a yo-yo and the power might fluctuate to your pedal . When you are going into a 600 watt head and that happens, its not pretty , Trust me .

Ont thing I have actually not tried is using the power out on the Boss Tuner . Anyone here has tried it ? Is it like using the one spot ??

Thanks,
Vibhas

Voodoo PP2, but I've got a couple that I still have to use the wall wart for (Guyatone VT-X and EHX Stereo Polyphase).

This right here. I power 9 pedals with just a single wall/power strip outlet. Cost about $40 in total.

1 Spot is the best power solution I've tried.

Gator G-Bus-8 and PedalPower 2+ have also served me well.

ten 9v batteries weigh 1 pound. Lightens that pedaboard up by taking them all out.

The only time I use batteries is trying out a new pedal in my chain without having to rearrange all the plugs on the 1 Spot. If it becomes a permanant member of the pedalboard the battery comes out and it goes on the daisy chain.

A lot of pedal manufacturers don't include a power supply with their pedals. The norm is to pay $10 more for the wall wart, which will cost you less than a plethros of 9v anyway.
