| | | | How do you setup the loop for Jaco's Slang?

I am wondering how do you setup the solo that Jaco does with the loop, and then play on top of it.
I have:
- 1 digital delay (behringer model)
- 1 distortion
- 1 combo amp
I have been playing around with the delay, and I am able so it plays a loop. But I don't know how to leave the loop playing and then play something else on top.
- Do I need another amp to run this, or what else do I need?
- How do i setup (i appreciate some detail on this)? |

The problem with this is that everything that goes into the pedal will be delayed. So you need your solo bass to go around the delay pedal - ie the bass to go straight to the amp, but also get the signal from your bass. It sounds like you need some sort of loop or switching pedal, but I don't know exactly what you would need. Some of the other people here will be able to help better than me.
Alternatively, you could get a dedicated looper, which will allow you to do this without any hassle.

| | | | Buy a Loop Station by BOSS or a Delay pedal that can avec a smal loop option.
I have the BOSS RC-2 Loop Station and I can do that. Really easy with the right tool. |

| | | | Thanks for the input. This seems like the easiest option.
I would like to know how it was done back then, kind of like to keep the tradition. |

I think Jaco used an MXR digital delay with four footswitches- the switches engaged or bypassed the recording function while the loop played. |

| | | | get a proper loop station, or an A/B box that will let you bypass the delay pedal.

It didn't quite look like the MXR in the video I saw on Youtube... you're probably right. (The MXR is also 2RU, and early ones had a blue face.) |

| | | | What if you ran the delay through the FX loop and your bass dry into the input?

There's an old DOD box that will do what you need and is available used for well under $100.

I saw him a couple of times do his thing (with the running and jumping off the amps and throwing of the bass) but wasn't paying attention to the gear. It sounded amazing!
For doing this kind of stuff, I love the Lexicon Jamman with Bob Sellon's upgrade chip. You can do 4 independent loops at once and control volume and pan of each loop and a bunch of other parameters.
The Looperlative also looks good as does the Digital Echoplex.
For the ultimate of this, though, get Ableton Live and a laptop.

| | | | these all sound like very nice tools.
i think the best bet would be the loop station.
I wonder if you can simulate the Acoustic 360 on a bass pod. I never used a pod, but I know the use it on studios. Do they use it also for live concerts? |
