How do you use delay?

I use mine on palm-muted riffs, and a a subtle delay with chorus sometimes. When/how do you use delay?

There are certainly groove spots that deserve the delay be played as an instrument in itself.

Think of your bass like a controller for the feedback, taking into account the tone of the decay.

Analog delay sounds amazing IME.

I sometimes Jean Baudin it up with some delay-tapping with my post-rock band

volume swells with my bassdrive make for a cool cello-ish sound. occasionally when it drops down to bass and drums on faster songs.

I set my MD-3 for a really slight, quick delay, so its more like a chorusy-reverb kinda thing

I don't use it, but I'm considering trying it on upright to make it sound like I'm slapping a lot more than I am.

Vigorously and frequently.

I have: Line 6 DL4 Delay Modeller, Boss RE-20 Space Echo, EHX Deluxe Memory Man and two Ibanez Tonelok DE-7s.
I want another Line 6 DL4 Delay Modeller so I can have 10 different delays and echos at my disposal.

I was thinking maybe placing them in a chain on a pedalboard.

DE-7 --mono-> DE-7 --mono-> DMM --stereo-> DL4 --stereo-> DL4 --stereo-> RE-20

I'm still not sure, maybe it's overkill.

The Line 6 DL4 on it's own is a life saver.

yeah, i use a DL-4 in my bands stuff, first preset is the multi-head self oscillation thing for effects in a breakdown in one of my bands intstrumentals. the next presst is used as a volume swell along with ring-mod tuned to F sharp. its for this really cool breakdown where theres just this big sounding ring mod riff going along with a sample of a Gman(from Half-Life) speech, its the sex. The third preset is a very quick, long repeat digital delay, used for a song myband are working on.

I LOVE DELAY!!!

I use it for reverb-type sounds, volume swells, and for syncopated arpeggios/lines. It's also fun to play with feedback.

volume pedal or volume knob -> delay pedal.
You can get some really cool sounds out of that combo, or run it delay -> volume pedal for some different fun sounds.

I am currently delay-less, however, I used to use a Line6 DL4 for some stuff... auto-swell delay was great for making ambient pads and such. I would also use it for rhythmic patterns, for house/acid type bass lines.

I may add a TC Nova Delay to my rig... it is smaller... and the DL4 died and now they are far too ubiquitous and I dislike the bypass sound.

dl4, dd-3, dm-2. for everything. volume swells that sound like whale noises, oscillation, atmosphere. delay is the most essential effect besides OD. IMHO

That looks like tremolo or volume swells to me.

What what you you need need is is to to write write the the same same words words multiple multiple times times.

Here's an example here's an example with more decay with more decay and increased delay and increased delay time time .

And and and and and and and and and and and and and [FEEDBACK]

I love delay.

I use it on a few songs: on one for a droning noise, and on another for a creepy modulated segment of a song.

I use it either for a quick slapback sound or for an spacy echoey sound, depending on the song. But in most contexts outside that of my current band, I wouldn't use it on bass.
