How do you use your multi-effect?

I bought a Korg AX3000B about a month ago, and I'm having trouble figuring out what settings to use on it for live gigs. I mostly play at my church, we starting to play more modern stuff like David Crowder, Chris Tomlin, and Lincoln Brester type stuff. Anyone else out there use this effects pedal and what settings do you like to use????

The 1st thing is to forget about presets and build your own sounds. Start with a good clean sound and add the effects you need for each song or section. You can go crazy developing sounds but realistically you will really only need 3 or 4 for any situation.

Get familiar with the sounds you can get out of your effect and then ask yourself of every song you're playing is there a sound in the pedal different from my clean tone that would better serve the song or certain sections of the song? If not, stick with your clean tone. Sometimes an effect is desirable to get the right feel in the song. If you're given a chance to step out and express yourself on your instrument, ask yourself what kind of sound will best allow you to do that or will communicate what you've got to say, and pay attention to the context of the song. You can be as minimalistic or take as much creative license as you want, it's really pretty simple. Just do what feels right.

I have different banks of patches vaguely earmarked for different things. One is for research and development, where I just experiment. Another is for simple straight forward effects. Another for tones I use all the time with my band and the last is in flux. Ok, really they're all in flux, but that's the idea. Once you get really familiar with what you like from your multi you'll probably find your own way of organizing it (over and over).

I agree with BassBrad. I use mine as if it were just a chorus, octaver, combo of those two, overdrive, autowah, and maybe one or two others. I built these patches from scratch. From my perspective, there's no "miracle sound" that's going to revolutionize my sound or playing. I just go with standard sounding effects that you can hear on numerous recordings, tried and true. The "multi-" thing just makes it convenient. Factory presets? Oh no you di-int!

yeah, I think I like the idea of using it more as individual effects instead of as a modeler. I already own a sansamp bddi and pretty soon a BBE Bmax preamp, so I have the tone I'm looking for. Any of you guys, use the AX3000b?? I'd love to see what you're using for settings on your effects, I find that some effects don't give you much control at all and others are way too finicky.
