How to effect loop?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been using effects for awhile now but i still not sure how to loop my effects to the amp.

My amp have a effects send and return. I use a pedal board that consist on input 1, input 2, output 1 and output 2.

I take it after it loop it, then i can plug my bass to the amp input rather then the pedal input

Regular foot pedals are meant to be used between the bass and amp. Generally the fx loop in the amp is meant for rack effects. It's a difference in the line levels, though you may have no problem with what you're trying to do. SEND goes to pedal INPUT, and RETURN goes to the pedal OUTPUT. But, I'd still use them between the bass and amp, as god intended.

Here is what i do at the moment:

1) Bass goes to the input of my pedal tuner
2) then all the pedals are link together and goes to the MXR M80 input
3) then the output of the M80 goes to the input 1 on my pedal board
4) then output 1 on my pedal board goes to the input on the amp

Okay, I was confused for a moment... but I just looked at your gear list in your profile.

Honestly, just keep doing what you're doing now, given what you're using. The effects loop wouldn't be doing you any favors. You'd just get an unpleasant distortion and a volume drop until you pulled those pedals out of the loop.

There are some pedals which work well in the loop (most modulation, delay, etc. pedals work well in there), but generally, I'd avoid using it for pedals.

If you do want to try it out just for the heck of it...

1) Plug your bass into your amp.
2) Run a cable from the "SEND" jack of your amp, into the first pedal on your pedalboard.
3) Run a cable from the last pedal on your pedalboard, into the "RETURN" jack of your amp.

You'll need to make gain/volume adjustments on all of your pedals AND on your preamp for best results, but chances are you might not like the results anyway. Give it a shot if you're curious - you won't damage anything!
